NiDARR is a self-help cell phone application designed to mitigate Gender Based Violence in the most effective and efficient way. Every day women and children face Gender Based Violence all across the world. According to the global review of the available data in 2013, 70 percent of all women are reported to have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime from an intimate partner. The Crime Investigation Department of Nepal Police reported that the number of domestic violence rose from 1,355 in 2010/2011 to 2,250 in 2011/2012. In 2013 alone, INSEC reported that 2,348 women and 700 girls were a victim of gender violence in Nepal. As these numbers accelerate every year, the need to develop and implement effective system to mitigate GBV is very important. This is where NiDARR comes in.
NiDARR means “fearless” is Nepali. As the name goes, it makes you NiDARR. In Nepal where women and girls are already facing severe gender discrimination,NiDARR is a step forward to mitigating the problem. We wanted to create a responsive, efficient, and feasible tool where women and girls could report GBV without the fear of being retaliated from their perpetrators or being stigmatized form the society.NiDARR exactly does that!
